Natural Lemon Hair Care Recipes

There are many reasons why it makes sense to add lemons to your natural hair care regimen. It’s well known that vitamin C is good for your hair, skin, and nails. Lemon juice has natural astringent and purifying qualities, and it can help you remove dirt and grease from your hair and scalp as it conditions. Here are a few ways you can use it to beautify your locks the natural way.

Lemon & Orange Natural Hair Spray
This DIY hair spray adds a glossy finish to your hair as well as keeping your style in place.

1/2 orange
1/2 lemon
2 cups water

• Chop the fruit with a sharp knife to as fine a pulp as you can.
• Transfer the chopped fruit to a pot and add the water.
• Bring to a boil over a medium-high setting. Once boiling, reduce to a medium temperature, and simmer until the liquid is reduced by nearly half. The fruit pieces should be very soft by this point.
• Strain out the fruit, and pour the liquid into a clean spray bottle.
• Use lightly on finished hair.
• Dilute with water for a softer hold.
• Store in the fridge between uses.

Lemon Hair Rinse
This rinse will leave hair shiny and clean. Best used on normal to oily hair types.

1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 cups of water

• This recipe is super simple: just combine the ingredients in a clean glass or mug and shake before use.

How to use it:

• Use as a conditioner after you shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
• Pour it over your hair and scalp, massaging it into your hair.
• Let it soak for 2 to 3 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

• Use it as a between-shampoo refresher.
• Wet hair, then pour the rinse over hair and scalp.
• Massage into hair and rinse as usual.

Note:
• Don’t use it more than once or twice a week, as it can dry hair.
• Over time, it may lighten your hair color.

Lemon Dandruff Conditioner
The natural way to hydrate scalp and remove dandruff.

2 tablespoon coconut oil, substitute olive oil if you like
1 tablespoon lemon juice

• Add both ingredients to a small bowl and mix together well to blend.
• Apply by dipping your fingers in the mixture and then massaging it into your scalp.
• Once the whole mixture has been applied, continue to massage over the whole scalp for about 5 minutes.
• Allow it to remain on your scalp for about an hour. You can cover it loosely with a towel as you wait.
• Wash out with a mild natural shampoo.
