DIY Skincare: Grapefruit Skin Toners

Toner might seem like an unnecessary step in your skincare regimen, but it has many benefits, especially for oily or acne prone skin types. Toner reduces the level of oils (sebum) at the skin’s surface, and can also cleanse skin by removing traces of make up, and help to calm your skin in general.

Grapefruit is full of skin-loving nutrients like Vitamin C, and it makes the perfect addition to your DIY skincare routine. Here are some ideas for homemade skin toners you can use every day.

Grapefruit Green Tea Toner
Add the goodness of antioxidant-rich green tea along with grapefruit juice, and you’ve got a powerful combo for your skin.

2 green tea bags
1 cup water
1/4 cup witch hazel
1/2 red grapefruit, juiced

• Bring the water to a gentle boil. Once it begins to bubble, use it to steep the green tea bags.
• Allow the steeped tea to cool to room temperature, and then remove the tea bags.
• Strain the grapefruit juice, and add it to the mixture.
• Add the witch hazel.
• Transfer to a clean bottle and shake thoroughly before each use.
• Use with a cotton ball or soft tissue, and dab it onto your face. Allow it to dry naturally, and then rinse with warm water.
• You can refrigerate the toner.
• Suitable for daily use.

Grapefruit Rind Toner
This is a quick and easy way to add a Vitamin C boost to your day.

1 grapefruit
4 cups distilled water

• Cut off the grapefruit rind in strips, and set aside for now.
• Bring the water to a boil in a pot with a tightly fitting lid.
• Once the water has begun to boil, remove it from the heat, and add the grapefruit rinds.
• Cover with the lid, and let it steep for at least 15 minutes, and up to 3 or 4 hours at room temperature.
• Strain out the peel, and it’s ready to use.
• Apply with a cotton ball, and follow with a moisturizer.
• Refrigerate for up to two weeks.
• Suitable for daily use.
